It allows you to work one-on-one with individuals who are in great need of service and support. Home health aides are one of the top three growing careers in New York State.
As a home health aide you will perform tasks such as bathing, dressing, and grooming, assistance with walking, medication reminders, accompanying people to doctor’s appointments, grocery shopping and meal preparation, light housekeeping, laundry and errands.
We hire:
- friendly, compassionate, reliable, and trustworthy individuals who are able to work independently;
- individuals interested in either part-time or full-time work;
- adults at least 18 years of age;
- individuals with or without health care experience;
- individuals who can travel by bus or car.

Do I need to provide references?
Yes, employers’ names and full addresses – there is room for 3 on the application. Also, names and full addresses of 3 personal references who are not family members (for example, teachers, clergy, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, social workers, case workers, case managers, counselors, etc.)
Do you provide training?
We hold a 75-hour FREE training program each month that is approved by the New York State Department of Health. There are 12 unpaid training days and 2 paid supervised field experience days. Classes usually run from 8:30 to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. You are not required to buy any books or uniforms for training.
Do you hire Certified Home Health Aides or Certified Nurse’s Aides?
Certified Home Health Aides and Certified Nursing Aides are able to work after a free 5-day orientation and competency evaluation program.
Do you offer benefits?
Yes. Employees receive mileage or bus fare reimbursement, shift differential for evenings and weekends, paid in-service training, recognition programs and credit union membership. Employees working at least 20 hours per week qualify for paid time off, paid sick time, free life insurance, and reduced AAA memberships. They also may purchase their choice of 2 health insurance plans, and/or a dental insurance plan at low group rates. Employer contributions toward health insurance premiums are available after 500 hours of work. Eligible employees may participate in an immediately-vested retirement thrift plan with an employer match available after two years of service.
When can I start working?
You can begin working immediately after successful completion of the training program. You decide what days and hours – full or part time – you will commit to work.
When will I receive my certificate?
After you complete the training program, you will be evaluated on the job in accordance with our approved training program. At present, you are required to have completed 3 hours of supervised practical experience in a home to be certified. Your certificate will be issued when you have successfully completed all training and supervised practical experience requirements.
Are career advancement opportunities available?
Home Aides of Central New York provides advancement opportunities through our Specialty Training Program. This program consists of three home health aide specialty training areas: Alzheimer’s disease/dementia; end-of-life care; and mental health/substance abuse. Our LPN Advancement program is also available for qualified aides.
