Eldercare Foundation, Inc.
The Eldercare Foundation is dedicated to providing a continuing source of
high quality, well-trained individuals to do the important work of providing
supportive services to keep our senior citizens safe and independent at home.
The
Eldercare Foundation is a 501 (c) (3) organization, formed in 2000 to provide
financial resources to Home Aides of Central New York and other organizations
supporting eldercare services and implementing innovative caregiver training
in the Central New York community.
In Onondaga County, New York:
• Individuals over age 65 make up 13.4 percent of the population
• The over age 85 population has increased 18.8 percent since 1990
• More than 31 percent of people living alone are elderly; 80 percent
of them are women
• 43 percent of those over 65 have annual incomes of less than $15,000
Like most of us, our older citizens prefer to live in the comfort of familiar
surroundings. Often, supportive services, such as housekeeping, meal
preparation and personal care, can keep an older person safe and
independent at home, rather than in the costly and more confining
alternative of a nursing home or other institutional setting.
